Now we'd like you to nominate a Petfinder dog for the Obamas! Just leave a comment with a link to that dog and an explanation of why you think he or she would be a good fit.
My candidate? Pride (right), an American bulldog-pit mix at Chicago Canine Rescue. Why? He's from Chicago, like the Obamas. He's a pit, so he knows what it's like to be misunderstood. His last family lost their home -- so he can help Obama stay in touch with the common person's financial troubles. He misses being part of a family with small children. And Pride -- you can't ask for a more American name than that!
We focused on the Obama family because of what they'd said. And we didn't feel a need to address this to the McCain family, since, with their 22 household pets, they clearly already have a place in their hearts for companion animals. And since they already have a rescued mutt in the family, that means that if John McCain becomes our next president, there will indeed be a rescue dog going to the White House.

I nominate a black lab rottweiler mix because the lab in them REALLY shines through & they're great with kids but at the same time they make an amazing guard dog. TRUST ME, I've met so many!
P.S. I have one & I'm 9 years old
**** CORKY THE LABRADOODLE HAS BEEN ADOPTED. PLEASE NO MORE INQUIRIES. THANK YOU! ****
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12957120
Hi, my name is Corky, the LABRADOODLE! I was an abandoned doggy that was rescued by Loving Arms. I am a lovable, huggable, and friendly boy! I'm very sweet and gentle with children, adults and other doggies. I love being around children and they love to play with me and throw me my squeakie toy! I would love to sit on your lap and keep you company. I have a sunny disposition and am learning my basic training at doggy-bootcamp. I am hypo-allergenic, neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. I am a short, medium-sized Labradoodle...what I don't have in size, I make up with my big heart! I'm just a young little guy from California who sleeps in a little white doghouse, just waiting for my new forever home with your loving family! I won't mind relocating to Washington DC so please pick me!!! Can we be the perfect match? YES WE CAN!
Loving Arms Animal Rescue & Adoption
LAARALOVINGARMS@AOL.COM
Pride gets my vote--let's have our PRESIDENT adopt a pit mix; then maybe people will become more educated about 'bully breeds' and our shelters will not be overwhelmed with pits waiting on euthanasia just because of the breed name! :(

this is a link to tristan
he is a husky mix puppy
he is sweet
loving and playful
His face is so beautiful and cute.
he has the prettiest eyes
but if you don't want him please look at the dogs from the SPCA of Southwest Michigan
They have really great dogs
I think you should get tristan. He is a baby husky mix. He was born in september 2008 and he is really sweet. He is at the SPCA of Southwest Michigan
I suggest the President and Mrs. Obama lconsider adopting a Coton de Tulear. These dogs have hair, not fur and make wonderful companions.
There is a puppy named Twinkle who was recently rescued by Thirdtyme Rescue in Mount Gilead, OH. He is a cutie and would make a wonderful companion for the girls.
we have the best dog here for the Obamas. we have a goldendoodle puppy who had 3 surgies for a torn blood vein.she seems to be doing fine she plays and is good for kids. we would happy for her if she gets a family like yours
I would like to nominate Linus or Peppers at Safe Haven Canine Rescue in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
The can be found at www.petfinder.com, State of Oklahoma, city of Midwest City.
Any rescue/adopted pet will be great. The doodles are awsome dogs also.
I THINK A POODLE OR A PORCHIGESE WATER DOG. I HAVE ADOPTED 3 DOGS THAT WERE SHELTER DOGS AND THEY ARE GREAT.WATER DOGS DO NOT SHED I AM FOSTER HOMEING ONE NOW. HE IS THE BEST. D0GS DESERVE BETTER HELPED ME, I RECOMMEND THEM.
I nominate Wema here on petfinder located at Martin County Humane Society! A Portuguese water dog.........
I nominate Aspen:http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12600919
a 10 week old westie (west highland white terrier) who is currently in OMAHA NE (They will probably transfer the dog for our newly beloved president elect). Now my reason:
Westies are faily small, I know Mr.Obama wanted a big dog, but I personally own one and they have NO idea truly how small they are, they also are very good with children, are very smart, and playful but not to hyper. Westies are also hypo alergenic. This baby boy is friendly sweet and loves to play not to mention he is ADORABLE!!
Obama family I think a westie would be a great family dog, my dog Josh is great and recently became a therapy dog and helps children with cancer (him and two other westies). Thank you for rescueing.
Abby
I nominate Holly http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12612153
She's a little Havanese, already spayed and up to date on shots. Good with kids and other pets. Havanese are easy dogs, good-tempered, hypo-allergenic and smart. Little without being wussy or yippy, they're just all around great dogs. I have a rescued Havanese and of my 6 dogs, he is the most easy-going one in the bunch.
I nominate Eli (http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12603808 ) For the Obamas. Cotons are active, small, hardy, hypoallergenic, and semi non-shedding dogs. Perfect for this family.
I want remind everyone who has suggested a big black dog or pit. The dog has to be hypoallergenic. I would love to see a pit in the white house but because of Malias alllergies that cant happen.
Obama/s - please consider a schnoodle for your pet - hypoallergenic and wonderful personality. You will be very happy with this breed.
What about a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier or English Sheepdog?? Both are considered hypoallergenic! My son is VERY allergic to dogs- hair, dander & saliva and we have a Wheaten (Willy) in our house and no problems! He is very smart, loyal and very good w/ our kiddos!!
I nominate Hope! She was rescued from the side of the road but she appears to be recovering well. Her foster parents at first thought she was a GoldenDoodle but now think maybe she's a lab mix.
Her name is Hope! How perfect is that?
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12218528
(A rescued pit bull would be my choice, but unfortunately, I'm sure that choice was eliminated in late August!)
I would like to nominate Freedom, a little Havanese. I think she is a perfect match! If she wasn't so far away I would adopt her myself.
She is a Havanese which might help our relations with Cuba, she was born on July 4 and she is hypo allergenic. Perfect little dog IMO.
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12335537
We have a Hava-Apso and she is just the best little dog. I think whatever they decide it should be a shelter dog.
Search for Havanese on Petfinder.com. These are adorable and sweet small dogs. They love to play and run, but don't require the intensity of exercise some of the bigger breeds require. Mixes with other hypoallergenic breeds such as Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Bichon Frises, Cairn Terriers, Westies, Maltese, Shih Tzu to name a few, would also make great pets.
There are two dogs with special needs but they don't appear to be severe. Many people can't afford vet bills so they avoid dogs that are disabled. Perhaps two dogs would be a good idea. My three small dogs are best buddies and big cuddlers. There is no jealousy, right now they are overlapped on their pillow taking a nap. They are smart and easy to train.
I recommend females because my experience is that small male breeds like to mark, even indoors and after neutering.
Poppie, Small Baby Female Dog, can walk but hops when she tries to run
Second Chance Small Dog Rescue, Wakarusa , IN
Isabella, Small Baby Female Dog, recovering from elbow fracture. Doing well.
Havanese Rescue Inc., Phoenix, AZ
There are some adorable Havanese pups on PetFinder. Here are some more cuties:
Freedom, (Ironic) Small Baby Female Dog Pet ID: 242
Havanese Angel League Organization, Livonia, MI
Florance, Small Baby Female Dog Pet ID: 235
Havanese Angel League Organization, Livonia, MI
Here is a picture of Sampson:
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12392226
I vote for Sampson. He's a cocker/Jack Russell/beagle mix. He's in a Chicago
shelter,so the Obama family will be taking a little bit of home with them to DC. Also,
he's a girl's dog---he's small and cuddly and just look at those eyes! Tell Michelle
that kids become resistant to their own pets, whereas they may be allergic to
animals they aren't accustomed to living with.
An Old English Sheepdog. The allergy obstacle would be met and they are truly a family-oriented and fun-loving breed. My youngest's nickname stuck after he began barking with the tone of a monkey ' Monkey Boy ' . Mine receive a lot of attention when in public (just like Barack did) and few are educated about this wonderful breed. There are plenty of OES that need to be rescued. I think he should try to find one that has blue eyes.
Perhaps he could name it Monkey Jr.
This little guy looks just like our Bichon that we adpoted 2 years ago. He is so sweet, and funny and everything you could imagine in a pet. So I am chosing Jimmy Olsen as the next first dog, because he just has that look!
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11624815
I think Zander would be great for them. He loves his people and he is great with kids. We are not for sure of his breed. He is partly housebrook and he is a great little boy. I think he would be great for them. www.woof.petfinder.com
I would like to nominate Sweet Gum she is a purebred beagle at Lake Shore Animal Shelter in Chicago. In fact in the dog breed directory here on Petfinder says that the beagle is an excellent children's dog, gentle, and incredibly tolerant.
What kind of a dog for the Obamas? Um I really really think that the best dog would be the pit bull. Fierce dogs that can't always be trusted. And Pride what an amazing dog name! It does seems to fit, too.
(I just feel sorry for the dog.) What a great marketing scheme, too.
Boy,, Alot of Pit Bulls, and I think it would be an excelent choice. Especially the Big Black PIts. If he would adopted one, that would sure say something for Pit Bulls !!!! I looked at all of them, they arel beautiful. It would be very very hard for me chose.
I am recommending the Papillion mix Priscilla to the Obamas. She is friendly, housetrained, likes to run and play outside but settles down quickly inside, likes walks, likes kids, likes people and is well socialized, is crate trained, rides well in cars, likes other dogs and cats - just generally an all-around good dog. She doesn't have separation issues so she won't be on somebody all the time, doesn't bark needlessly, knows basic commands and is healthy. She weighs about 15# so she's not too small and likely to get stepped on, but not so big as to be in the way all the time. She's a medium activity level dog, so she won't be always wanting to DO SOMETHING, and won't need to be checked regularly to be sure she hasn't died. At 8 months old, she should be around for a long time, small breeds being fairly long lived. I had a Papillion whom I loved very dearly and can attest that they are very likable and good humored athletic dogs who just want to be loved and cared for.

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9879841
I think the Obama's should adopt a Pitbull Terrier like Calvin from For the Love of Pits from Cleveland.
Maybe if a Pit is the FIRST DOG they wouldn't get such a bad rap.
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11105372
Wilbur! Now there's a white house dog. Part lab, part newfie!
I think he should welcome Lincoln into the White House: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10754766
First off Id like to say that I think the Obama’s should make themselves in to a truly good example for the American public and NOT GET A DOG AT ALL, at a time when they are starting a new job, well more of a new lifestyle where they will not have time to personally care for a dog as it deserves, as well as potentially for the wrong reasons, from what I’ve read and heard as incentive to get the mini-obamas to approve of the campaign and new job. There is also the pressure that an American president should have a dog at some point during the presidency.
They will more than likely have staff for the grunt work. I suggest that they HIRE MORE STAFF, AND FOSTER INSTEAD.
Since they will undoubtedly get a dog anyway I’ve got a couple of suggestions.
To make the most significant impact I think they should work against the BDS (black dog syndrome).
Its should also be a big dog.
Something wit PBT would be great for turning the publics view on them.
A cross with LAB and PBT would be terrific. A combination of two people loving, happy go lucky, energetic breeds. Perfect for an active family.
My suggestions are
Sadie & Abigail, blk 8months sisters, why not take two?
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10404755
Jenny, blackish brown adult female, http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9325120
Cutis, blk 7months male, if they want to go the puppy way,
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11435188
Hope, brown older female. If they want to really make a difference for seniors and those who have spent years without a family.
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10969936
If I were to only pick one, it would be the sisters Sadie & Abigail.
There is also the allergy issue with one of the young ones. It would therefore be good to try something with low allergen accumulation and dispersion or a protein structure that tends to be allergy friendly.
So I searched for someone with either; American hairless terrier, Poodle, Kerry blue terrier or Irish water spaniel in combination with other qualities I suggest. I didn’t find any currently available.
I vote for a Baby Basset Hound. They are very docile, wonderful with children, and would be a great addition to the White House!
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11461616
I vote for Jorge WI, slightly smarter than his namesake, I'm sure....Brittany's are the best dogs!
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11382462
Barack, I think the girls would flip over a female sheltie and Molly is so cute! Hurray for Shelties!
Daschunds make the best dogs!!
I nominate"Roosevelt"from the Chicago Canine Rescue.Take a look at him and you will see he has the looks and the name appeal!
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10362839
I vote for Hillary. She looks fit for White House living - I wonder if they have good doggie doors there. Of course she'd need to have her own Secret Service agent at all times so maybe they'd just escort her out when she has to go...
He has two sweet little girls; why not get Slip & Slide, 2 little girl puppies who are also sisters? They could race up and down the hallways of the White House chasing their tennis balls and keep the whole family giggling even when the job of 1st Family gets stressful. I also think Karen's suggestion of Duke is a good one because he's good with kids.
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11504241
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11504242
I wouldn't let him have a dog. Why would I trust him with such a loving loyal creature like a rescue dog when I can't trust him with my children's futures-after all his wife is ashamed of being an American!!
How about Natalie http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10591874 or Coach http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11042292or . These guys are both great dogs who love everything and everyone and it would be a great representation of the breed to have a bully breed in the white house. All around great dogs!
Brewster would make a perfect running mate... look at that grin...

I think a dog named Cuba or China would be fun for the press to report on when they have a slow news day.
Pride would be a great White House dog. He gets my vote. We need a bulldog in the Oval Office.
I say find the ugliest dig out there and nominate it is there cause it any Chinese crested dogs available
what about this dog, his name is Peace so he would remind Barack everyday that Americans want Peace: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11464419
I vote for Duke! He's from the area, and it looks like he loves everyone from animals to children. I think he'd be a great white house rep.
