September 3, 2008--The Weather Channel is reporting about the big difference for pets during Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Katrina. With Gustav, pet evacuations were a top priority for
emergency workers. Nobody wanted to see a repeat of the thousands of abandoned and lost pets during Hurricane Katrina. And also, one of the top reasons people in New Orleans had given for no evacuating, was that they didn't want to leave their pets behind.
What do you think: Was the massive evacuation of pets and people from New Orleans the right thing to do?

Still searching for my dog!!!! My dog, Peeps, was evacuated through Jefferson Parish, Louisiana's State assisted pet evacuation. We did not go to the same final location. There was absolutely no communication between agencies available to help me find out where my Dog was/is. I don't know if he was cared for, or even if he is still alive. When I returned home last night, there was no one at the Parish arrival center to even help me find an answer, and no one cared at all.
Never, ever again will I trust ANY agency in this state to keep me or my pet safe in the event of a potential disaster. We will suffer what happens together, at home, how ever that may turn out.
There were quite a few more people with the same experience as I have had at the LSU-A mass shelter. No one cared how distraught we were and we still don't have, or know where, our beloved pets are.
On Wednesday, 09/03/08, my boyfriend's Brother-In-Law was returning to Kaplan from Shreveport on I-49.
At around 2:00 p.m. an accident occurred on the southbound lane north of the Alexandria area.
A little brown dog ran North on I-49S between the vehicles from around the area of the accident.
Traffic was at a standstill and people tried catching the little dog.
My boyfriend's Brother-In-Law opened the door of his truck and called the little dog and the dog jumped right into his truck!
The little dog appeared to be frightened.
We don't know if the dog was in a vehicle involved in the accident.
The dog is safe and secure at their house as we are all animal lovers.
