PetfindertrailerIke.jpgAs of Saturday morning, the International Fund for Animal Welfare had set up the Petfinder.com Foundation's emergency pet rescue van in lower Louisiana and was busily assisting the Louisiana State Animal Rescue Team with pet rescues in Louisiana.

At right: IFAW's Emergency Relief Disaster Manager Dick Green steps out of the Animal Rescue trailer funded by Petfinder.com Foundation. IFAW's team has been designated to lead water search and rescue operations in a windy and rainy Calcasieu Parish, LA.

As the eye of Ike made its way North and daylight broke on Saturday, the extent of the flooding and damage became apparent. Hundreds of people who chose to ride out the storm at home began calling for help. By Saturday, the rescues of humans from Galveston and low-lying areas was done by helicopter--meaning pets would have to be left behind.

I am responding to anyone who may be able to HELP. I need to place my Mother's / my Cat with someone who is a true cat lover. She is 14 yrs. old and female and has been spayed. Baby Kitty is totally an indoor cat and has never been out side. She is de-clawed. She only weighs 7 lbs. so ahe is a small cat. Baby Kitty is a very pretty cat, short haired, light grey with white paws and chest. She is a loving kitty and loves to be petted and loved. She would make an adult owner very happy. She does have one problem she like to spray in the house. I don;t know how to stop her from doing this but perhaps someone else may. I am very hopeful that I will be able to find someone who will love her and enjoy her....she is very sweet.

GO TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL. They are not a shelter and therefore euthanize animals not claimed in 96 hours. They have 100+ dogs scheduled to be destroyed this weekend (9/20) if not "adopted". There is no charge to take a dog home - please go save a life. They are overloaded from IKE. GO RESCUE AS MANY AS POSSIBLE!

Hi all, thanks so much for your offers of help. Your best bet is to post your offer on our Hurricane Ike thread on our message boards:

http://forums.petfinder.com/viewforum.php?f=25

You'll need to create a username and login, but this will enable people to contact you through Petfinder without your posting your contact info publicly.

Thanks again and good luck!

We live in Southern Ontario. I know a long way away. After reading stories after Katrina, I wish I had of done more. Is there any way possible I can help. Im even willing to take in pets if it can be arranged.

Can I help ??

We live near Baltimore, MD. If something can be worked out as far as transportation, we would be happy to provide temp. refuge for a few little children.

How Can I help!?
I live in Sugar Land, TX, 60 miles from Galveston. I am capable of helping up to 2 animals in my apartment, temporarily or perminantly.
I am heartbroken by the stories of people being forced to leave their pets behind.
I can't find information anywhere as to how I can help out. I don't have power yet after Ike, but I do have clean water, access to unlimited ice, space, and love to give to animals that need shelter.
Any information?
