My friend Sandi has made her dedication to pit bulls and animal rescue permanent -- check out this pic of her new tattoo.Sandi has devoted her life to animal welfare: She works at NYC's Bideawee shelter and, like me, volunteers at Animal Care & Control of NYC (she also runs a MySpace page for AC&C pets) -- and now she's got the ink to prove it.
Seems like there's a link between caring about animals and getting inked -- maybe because one you've realized how much homeless pets need your help, you're changed for life anyway (check out the guys from NYC's Rescue Ink and Atlanta pit bull rescuer Brandon Bond for a few examples).

Cat Tattoo
The symbolic meaning of the cat varies wildly across the globe and through time. It has been an ill omen in Japan, a stoic that is unmoved by the death of the BUDDHA in Buddhism, the form of a beneficent goddess in Egypt (BASTET), a creature distrusted by the Celts, given seven lives by Muslims, a symbol of cunning for the Pawnee of North America, and attributed with clairvoyant behavior in central Africa. Today, cat imagery in tattoo is dominated by depictions of household pets. As pets, we associate them with playfulness, some aloofness, and a great deal of affection. As seen in the animals themselves, their images span the great variety of the species, in both form and color.

As a dedication to the breed I love and the organization I helped to found, I had the tattoo below put on my arm. And, it was done by one of my rescue's wonderful adopters which makes it even more special. I love it and have received many compliments on it!

My tattoo was inspired by my two passions: dogs and my pet treat bakery. My husband and I own Ann Arbor Biscuit Co., an organic and all-natural pet treat bakery in Ann Arbor, Michigan. My tattoo features our rescued Pit Bull puppy named Millie and a spatula and whisk in a crossbones motif.
This is my guardian cat tat; inspired by years of working in animal rescue.
I got a tattoo done of my beloved shepherd mix, Star. As a 10 year old kid, I didnt have many friends. We adopted a german shepherd/ australian shepherd mix. She was my best friend! she stuck by my side through thick and thin. She was my sholder to cry on when I needed someone. She was my inspiration. I was 24 when she passed away due to old age. I was moving out and getting married. She knew it was time, I wasnt going to be there at home with her anymore. One month before (at the time) My fiancee and I moved in together, she passed away. Till this day I will still remember and cry for her. I adopted a cat named Angel. My first pet since Star. I think my cat is Star reincarnated. I was lucky to have adopted the right cat! Now I have 3 cats and a mini dachshund. She was my inspiration! to love and care for the animals in need. I was in need of her now in return, they need me!

Pet memorial tattoos are the greatest! I have three paws on my right foot. Two for our puppies we lost to Parvo and the tiny one at the top was for the runt my Reece had in January that didn't survive. I'm not done with the tattoo I still have to have a little more work done and have their names done.
