The Petfinder blog is taking a little hiatus to play with our new toys and take pictures of our pets in their new sweaters.

Happy New Year to everyone and we'll see you on Jan. 5!

Hi Marci - I had replied to you on 12/20 but never heard back, I apologize - we already chose a home for the special Miss Merry, the Border collie.
If you look on petfinder, there's usually a ton of Border collies in rescue waiting for homes.
They are a more difficult dog to place due to their need for mental and physical stimulation.
We did find a very good home for Merry, with plenty of BC experience.
Thanks for caring, and keep watching www.petfinder.com !

I would really like to request that the Rescue Organizations and Humane Societies whom utilize petfinder to list adoptable pets keep a better track of their listings. It is extremely frustrating to get email after email that the pet you would like to inquire about has already been adopted. Please, if the pet has been adopted, REMOVE the listing. Also, I have sent inquiries on pets listed and pictured at 12 weeks old only to be told they have been adopted and then see the same pet, picture and age listed 3 months later! Do these pets not age??? The site has become stale with all the old listings that never seem to get deleted or at least updated. Also, because there is no “listing” date, there is no way of knowing how long an animal has been on the site to calculate their current age. I am not blaming petfinder.com, as they provide a great service by providing free access to both agencies and the public for interaction and are not responsible for the users of the site. I am blaming the agencies for not listing responsibly. After receiving the 10th or 20th email about a already adopted pet, I would think they would want to remove the ad to avoid wasted time and disappointing prospective pet owners.

Help! We are using Petfinder, and writing several letters about multiple pets, from different email addresses (in case we're getting blocked) and not getting responses. We are very interested in adopting, only to see our 'dream doggies' get a 'recently adopted' label a month after we began our inquiry. Does anyone know anything about "A Paws Up Rescue" in Prosser, Washington? There were two email addresses provided that we have used to write to in order to connect to their pets but get no response. We have called the police departments animal control officer in Prosser as well as their chamber of commerce and nobody has an address or phone number for this rescue. Is there another way besides email to contact people for pets available when they dont respond to email? We are just grasping at straws? Any advice? We have been so excited about adopting a new friend, only to get frustrated by no response and then heart broken to see them get adopted w/out giving us a chance. HELP.

I am not sure if I am writing in the right place. I would just like someone to hear me. I feel very helpless, you see, our dog of 8 years recently ran away (the Sun.) before Christmas. We have been looking for him and honestly didn't even think to check out our local shelter. We live in primarily a farm community where our dogs are used to running around freely. It is now Jan 2, 09 and we have located him in our local shelter with a sign on his cage "I have been adopted". We are thrillled that he is alive and are very grateful for the wonderful job of our local shelter, however, we have been told we are unable to retrieve our dog of 8 years. I am very upset and confused, and feel very hopeless. They will not give us any information of the adoptive parents, because I would just like to contact them to let them know we have found our dog. They also think they have adopted a three year old dog, when in fact he will nine this year. I don't know what to do, my kids have been distraught since Harley left. I don't know if this will fall into the right hands, but PLEASE HELP. The adoption is supposed to take place on Monday Jan 5. Do I have any rights?
