We're thrilled to announce that Victoria Stilwell, internationally renowned dog trainer and star of the Animal Planet hit It's Me or the Dog, has offered to help one lucky Petfinder pup get adopted. We've invited Petfinder shelter and rescue group members to send us a description of one of their adoptable dogs who has a behavior issue that could benefit from Victoria's advice.
We'll select finalists, and visitors will be able to vote for their favorite on Petfinder.com from March 4-22. The dog with the most votes will be announced on Petfinder.com beginning March 25.
The winning dog will get a complimentary telephone consultation with Victoria -- and best of all, when the dog is adopted, his or her new family will also have the chance to speak with Victoria to assist with the pup's transition into the new home.
We will detail the advice and progress here on the Petfinder blog so that more people and pets will benefit from Victoria's positive, reward-based training advice. We're huge fans of Victoria, a longtime pet-rescue advocate, and are delighted that she's lending her expertise to one of our adoptable pets. May the best (worst?) dog win!
We have a dog who wants to hug and paw every one! She is a 2-3 year old St. Benard mix Great Pyrenees, She is about 90 pounds! We need your help!!!
We have a rescue puppy, all he wants to do is cuddle and at night he cries and barks constantly. We'd love Victoria to help us out!
I have read some really sad stories about dogs coming from puppy mills. One case is a dog currently fostered in Ohio. This poor pup confines herself to the bathroom of the house. With the door open she just looks out, barely leaving to eat or relieve herself. I wonder if Victoria, who in my opinion is such a gifted trainer, could help this poor little one.
I do not get animal planet so is there some were I can get information on training my resque puppy. She has been running arround the house and now has started growling at me an you help me correct this problem
This is a really neat thing Petfinder and Victoria are doing. I love Victoria's training approach with positive methods. I highly disagree with negative reinforcement and the "dominance" theory, there's no need to train that way when you could train your dog with positive approaches. Congrats to the lucky dog that gets her help!

I really like Victoria Stilwell's TV persona and her dog training advice. (I hate the name of the show, but... you can't have everything.) This is a great idea to expose people to shelter dogs, to positive training, to new hope for dogs :)
This is so cool! I am such a mega fan of Victoria Stilwells!! She is my hero!!! I wish I could meet her in person, I'd love to have a career helping animals get rescued!
