pvwinner_white_thumb.gifThanks to YOU, Petfinder Mobile is the winner of the People's Voice Webby Award in the category Mobile: Listings & Updates!

Thanks so much to all who voted (I know it was a challenge to register sometimes due to the high volume of traffic, so we are especially grateful for your persistence).

We are so proud to have a mobile application (you can view it from your desktop at m.petfinder.com) that allows users to view adoptable pets from wherever they are. Our dream is that adoption advocates like you can use Petfinder Mobile to spread the word -- that is, when your friend talks about wanting to buy a puppy from a pet store, instead of just TELLING her to check out Petfinder, you can SHOW her all the great adoptable pets near her.

Petfinder facilitated more than 2 MILLION adoptions last year, and we couldn't have done it without wonderful supporters like you!

Check out all the Webby winners here.

This is for all Cavalier King Charles Spaniel lovers, and those considering rescuing one. They are the most wonderful. loving, gentle fur souls, and make incredible companions for gentle, loving, human souls. However, the word needs to be spread that Cavs tend towards a very painful, debilitating, and possibly fatal genetic condition called Syringomyelia. It has to do with the head being too small for the brain (size 10 foot trying to squeeze into a size 6 shoe, is how I've heard it described). The only way to diagnose it is to have an MRI done. There are centers that can do MRI's for a reasonable cost, and the Long Island Veterinary Center is currently doing a study, with the MRI's costing approx. $500.00 for the entire study, with MRI's done annually. Please, please, if you have a Cav, are thinking about one, or know someone who has one, get the MRI done to make sure that your best friend gets the proper care. Puppy mills and poor breeders are responsible for the spread of this horrible condition.
We adopted a wonderful Cav from this great Petfinders site, and she does have Syringomyelia. I am SO grateful that we were lucky enough to adopt her, as we already have one Cav in Dr. Marino's LIVS study. Our Martini as well as our Isabella will both have the surgery needed to correct this condition in August, and hopefully they will go on to lead long, healthy lives. (We also have them on vitamins for strong hearts, as that is another area of concern for Cavs). The bottom line here is that adopting an animal should be taken VERY seriously, with a commitment to do whatever needs to be done for these incredible beings, who give us so much, and ask for so little, except love and nurturing.
Thank you for reading this.

First of all I want to thank you for leading me to my rescue which I now volunteer for, and that is what promped me to send you an e mail.
I feel that there is no way that a small rescue such as ours has a fair chance of winning the shelter challenge. It appears that the same large shelters always win. I don't begrudge them, but I was wondering if there was any way that you could level the playing field. No matter how many people we ask to vote for us on a daily basis, we just can't compete. I know rescues need all the help they can get, but smaller rescues don't receive the grant money that larger rescues do. It's discourgaging for us to continue to vote, but we keep trying.
Petfinders in a wonderful organization. Through you I found my passion, and it is with passion that I want to do something to help our little rescue survive. Thanks for all you do, Kathy Ragan
