Some highlights:

  • Petfinder accounts for 65% of U.S. and Canadian adoptions.
  • For about a quarter of our 12,500+ shelter/rescue group members, Petfinder is responsible for 80-100% of ALL their adoptions.
  • Petfinder sends adoptable-pet listings to over 275 popular Web sites such as AOL, Petco.com, Walmart.com, Oodle and MySpace, reaching millions of potential adopters every year.
  • Petfinder Mobile takes adoptable pets on the road - via cell phones, BlackBerrys and iPhones.
  • The Petfinder.com Foundation awarded more than $1,000,000 in cash and products to our members in disaster-relief grants and power-generator awards.
  • Petfinder pets data will power the adoptable-pet search on the web site for the Ad Council's first-ever animal welfare-oriented campaign in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States and Maddie's Fund.

Laura, this is a common problem. I am too working to raise awareness of it. You can visit my pooche's site at http://www.dogster.com/dogs/931308. He is a spokesdog for all the dogs who were denied good homes or werent rescued thanks to some overzealous individuals, who are in rescue for the powertrip and not the welfare of the animals. You can visit http://grace1129.net/2008/12/best-dawg-rescue-inc/#comments
and see that you are not alone in this experience. Also, this blog highlights this problem: Ihttp://www.dolittler.com/2009/05/11/What-would-it-take-to-get-YOU-to-take-home-a-shelter-pet-The-Ad-Council-investigates.html. I am very lucky in that my fight for my dog resulted in my adopting him. I empathize with others who weren't as lucky. I hope you can find a reasonable rescue group or shelter and adopt from there. Do have your dog spayed! It's better for everyone.

i am very upset. the taunton animal shelter denied me harley rose, (german sheperd female) because my smaller dog was not spayed. i asked if i made an appointment to get her fixed previous to getting harley if that would change there mind. they said no. we have the time, money and love and room for a beautiful shelter dog. and could take very well care of her. and she got denied a home. i am devastated. i was looking forward to picking up harley this weekend. and we got turned down. i am so very extremely upset with this.
